Most instrument tracking software systems use 1D barcodes. 1D barcodes are not very much different from RFID. When you scan the barcode you get a serial number that can relate to time/date, location, and identification of the item scanned. That’s pretty much it. No intelligence, no details, no pictures or count sheets, or instructions, and certainly no aids to inspect a set for errors and missing items. Simply put, 1D barcodes have no intelligence. It can’t provide the detailed information on its own, nor a visual representation of the contents. This is where Case Medical’s software is on the fast lane of the digital superhighway.
