Doing the Right Thing
Kaizen is an approach to creating continuous improvement based on the idea that small, ongoing positive changes can reap significant improvements. Continuous improvement is an ongoing process of analyzing performance, identifying opportunities, making incremental changes and continuing to grow. Sometimes these effects can make small incremental changes to a product or process. Then over time these small changes can contribute to a better product with breakthrough improvement all at once. Many folks have asked me over the years how a small, woman owned company in New Jersey was able to develop a universally compatible sealed container system and a line of instrument chemistries that are certified by EPA for sustainability and effectiveness and have potential to degrade infectious agents. Frankly, I cannot give you a definitive answer, but I can assure you that it was not a radical transformation or idea. It was simply due to working with others and simply doing the right thing.
It Takes a Team to Make Quality Products
Making a better product means fine tuning your processes, doing a thorough risk analysis and collaborating with others to improve process and drive efficiencies. At Case Medical we have a diverse workforce with folks from every region of the world. Some descended from immigrants who came here from other countries generations ago and others that came to the U.S. more recently went to college or technical schools here and brought their skills, technology, innovation, and culture with them to our company. Our strength has been understanding that making a great product or company means having great people and continuing to learn and grow through collaboration, education and teamwork. That is why we support and collaborate with our local colleges and universities and open our doors to students for plant tours, internships, and mentorship. Many former students stayed with us after graduation and contribute to our continued growth.
Education and Collaboration for Continuous Improvement
Over three decades, Case Medical has provided continuing education and training to our employees through State grants, educators affiliated with NJMEP, and by collaboration with local colleges and universities, NJIT, Bergen Community, and recently with Rutgers University. We are living in a time of rapid technological change and now uncertainty when it comes to tariffs, potential supply chain challenges, and finding skilled personnel. Case Medical survived and even thrived during the pandemic and the previous tariffs and supply chain challenges because of these professional relationships who offered us education and guidance. We learned that through collaboration and commitment to continuous improvement, we can adapt even under the worst of circumstances. This is due to recognizing that incremental change and persistence with the right team can not only create quality products but contribute to a constructive work environment.
